Common questions

I have never done Karate. Which class do I go to?

Beginners start in the white belt class. On Wednesdays at Moorways that is the White to Red belt class at 6pm; on Sundays at Keldholme Lane it is the White to Orange belt class at 5.30pm. Book a free trial first so we know to expect you.

How old do you have to be?

Classes are open from age 4. There is no upper limit — our students range from 4 years old to retirement age and beyond, and many families train together.

Can I try a class before joining?

Yes. Register for a free trial through our online booking system and come along to the class for your grade.

What are the specialist classes?

Block sessions throughout the year. Kata and Kumite development classes are for development and elite students working towards competition or a grading; Self Defence covers our responses to habitual acts of physical violence, along with awareness and avoiding conflict. Email info@sdka.co.uk and we will tell you when the next block runs.

Do you run private sessions?

Yes — 1-2-1 or small group sessions for up to 4 people, available at request. Email info@sdka.co.uk to arrange one.

What does it cost once I have joined?

Every member needs the £20 annual membership, which includes insurance. Training is then a monthly package — see the prices page for the options.
