About us
South Derbyshire Karate Academy (SDKA), established in 2004, has been a cornerstone for martial arts training in the Derby area, with its senior instructors teaching since the 1990s. The club is led by three highly experienced 5th Dan instructors, supported by a dedicated team of Black Belts, allowing them to tailor each class to the individual needs of students. Every instructor has been trained within the Academy, ensuring consistent, high-quality teaching, and all are DBS checked to provide a safe and supportive environment for practitioners of all ages and levels.
We have a motto of “KARATE FOR ALL” and have students ranging from 4yrs – retirement age plus, from a large cross section of society.
Many of our students train as a family, we have a community based ethos, many lifetime friendships have been made at the Academy.
We now have many second generation students from the 2000’s are now bringing their children and grand-children to train with us.
Karate Training
South Derbyshire Karate Academy Ltd (SDKA) teaches a traditional Wado-Ryu based syllabus, blending the core principles of this martial art with modern training techniques. In addition to traditional training, the Academy boasts an active sport karate competition squad, with both instructors and students achieving high-level success, including WUKF and WKC World and European Championships. This combination of tradition and competitive excellence allows SDKA to cater to a wide range of martial arts enthusiasts, from those seeking personal development to athletes aiming for elite-level competition.
